Breyer 1315
New from Breyer, DZ Weedo appaloosa, endearingly known as Odie by his owners Doug and Sue Schembri of Char-o-lot ranch of Florida, is a 1994 buckskin Appaloosa stallion. He is particularly know in the western show ring as a multiple national and world champion in western riding and trail competitions.
Beyond his success as a champion show horse, DZ Weedo is highly acclaimed for his colourfully spotted coat, a distinguishing trait of the all American appaloosa. The breed descends from the spotted horses developed in the 1800's by the Nez Perce Indians. The only tribe know to practice selective breeding, the Nez Perce developed an agile, hardy and sure-footed horse that allowed them to thrive as hunters. When land disputes in the west ended in war, the Nez Perce Indians eluded the cavalry for three and half months and more than 3,000 miles on the backs of their spotted horses.
In addition to its loud coat patterns, the Appaloosa breed is characterized by mottled skin (dark spots on pink skin) most commonly found on the muzzle and around the eyes and striped hooves. Having also inherited the athleticism of its predecessors, the appaloosa excels in many disciplines such as racing, jumping, reining and roping.
