England's oldest native breed, the Cleveland Bay traces its roots to the Chapman Horse, a pack animal used for agricultural and mine work. Originally bred in the Cleveland region of Yorkshire in northeast England, the Cleveland Bay was influenced early in its history by Spanish and Barb blood.
